The Stuart Channel Blue Heron baseball team has arrived.

“We are an upstart baseball team based out of Chemainus, but with players from Duncan up to Nanaimo and all points in between,” noted team member Dan Francis. “We established ourselves by playing pick-up and scrub games since March.”

New players are welcome to come out Monday evenings to the Chemainus Ball Park and there’s hopes of adding another team.

“So if playing baseball interests you, this is your gig,” added Francis. “Just so you know, we play real baseball, not softball. Wood bats, small balls and actual pitching. We are looking for baseball enthusiasts that enjoy the game in its purest form. Maybe you haven’t played in years or you love the game and miss it or you have been stuck playing softball because there were no other options for baseball.”

The age demographic is 30 to 50 years old, “but we will take on all comers as long as you are familiar with the game,” Francis indicated. “Call it old guy baseball or whatever. We are going to make this a thing.”

The team played a doubleheader at Port Alberni Aug. 6 and lost both games, 15-1 and 7-3.

The next games are planned in Chemainus on Aug. 20 and 27 against Port Alberni.
