Gord Koster was far and away the class of his class in the Mount Brenton Golf Club’s club championship tournament.
Koster had rounds of 77 and 81 for the two-day event and a total of 158. That left him with a big eight-shot cushion over Chuck Keehn in the Super Senior Men’s division for low gross. There were 20 players in the category.
Keehn was in contention after the first day with a 79, but slipped to 87 for a 166.
Brian Aaberg (87-81 - 168), Bob Menard (89-84 - 173) and Butch Caskenette (92-84 - 176) rounded out the top five.
Koster’s 132 was also the low net, but as the low gross winner, he relinquished that trophy to runner-up Keehn, who finished at 134. Aaberg carded a 150 low net for third.
The Senior Men and Ladies’ events had the largest entries with 22 players each.
Jack Henzie topped the Senior men in low gross, shooting a 77 and 76 for a 153 total. Randy Pauls (80-75) and Fred Stevenson (77-78) were both tied at 155.
Ron Rhode’s rounds of 83 and a superb 74 gave him fourth at 157. James Crickett carded a 78 followed by an 80 for a 158 and fifth place.
Pauls won the low net with a 131 followed by Keith Wyman at 132 and Ken Norman at 134.
Dar Michell led the ladies in low gross with rounds of 92 and 88 for a 180 total. Starr Adams (91-92) and Susan Hughes (93-90) tied at 183.
Kathy Matilpi improved from 101 the first day to 94 the second day for a 195 total, good for fourth place. Sandra Deptford slipped into fifth place, shooting a 99 and 100 for 199.
Hughes was the low net winner at 141. Deptford had a 145, Linda Wall and Elaine Lambier both came in at 147 and Rita Cannon had a 148.
The men’s event attracted only 12 players. Darien Pridham edged Ross Cormack by one shot for low gross.
Pridham had a 68 the first day followed by a 79 for a 147 total while Cormack’s 148 included rounds of 70 and 78.
Third went to Matt Tomandl with a 151 from rounds of 78 and 73.
Dave Winter topped the low net standings with a 140, Tomandl finished at 141 and Cormack wound up at 142.
