Fuller Lake Arena was supposed to be a busy place this holiday season.

But it won’t be now after new Provincial Health Orders were announced Friday due to the Omicron variant.

An Under 11 tournament had been scheduled for Dec. 27-28, Under 13 on Dec 29-30 and an Under 7 jamboree on Jan. 2. All are now cancelled and there will be a lot of disappointed kids with the announcement just before Christmas.

The Under 7 tournament was going to be extra special, with the Under 13 Tier 2 team members and their families hosting it. The Under 13 Tier 2 group decided it was unfair for the Under 7s to cancel their first jamboree due to not having a committee to run it and now it doesn’t matter anyway.

It would have been the very first games for most of the young players since the pandemic and now that experience is put on hold again.

It’s uncertain at this point what will happen with the hockey situation for young players after the holidays and into the new year.
