Nola and Tim Hendrie represented themselves and Chemainus well during the B.C. Masters Track and Field Championships in Langley.
Nola won gold in the pole vault while attaining silver in the hammer and discus, bronze in shot put and long jump and a fourth place in the 100 metres.
“Out of those events, I was pleased with how I did in the hammer and 100 metres even though I was last in my age group,” she noted.
Tim finished with a silver in the high jump, fourth place in shot put and the 400 metres and fifth place in both the discus and the 800 metres.
Tim was pleased with those results. He conceded it takes a lot of work to perform at that level.
“We have some new members who are fast, so we enjoyed watching them plus all the kids are at that meet as well, so lots of great racing to watch,” Nola indicated. “One of our pole vault coaches is almost 45 and he vaulted 4.4 metres. Very impressive.”
The Hendries went on to compete in the one-day Comox Solstice meet.
Tim did both the 400 and 800 metres on the same day, with high jump thrown in for good measure. He was the only masters male running but ran in a heat with the teens.
Nola ran the 100 metres in a season’s best time plus competing in the shot put and long jump.
“I haven’t done much long jumping this season and it shows,” Nola explained. “I am having trouble hitting the board in my run up, rarely faulting but taking off before the board.”
The Hendries are gearing up again for the 55+ B.C. Games in September in Kelowna.
