Mica Torres Hernandez is one of the rising stars in the Fuller Lake Skating Club program.
Torres Hernandez, 12, lives in Ladysmith and is currently doing Grade 7 studies through distance learning from Island Connect-Ed at home this year during COVID. Her skating has come a long way in the last couple of years.
It’s been a bit of a drawback this season for Torres Hernandez and the other skaters not to have any competitions happening, but they’re still working hard in practice to ensure they’re continuing to develop and are ready to compete again when the time comes.
“I definitely miss competitions because everyone is so supportive around each other, and I always had fun,” noted Torres Hernandez. “Although, I do like that we get a bit more time to practice and really get good and consistent at the things we need to do, especially when you’re in the more competitive and higher levels.
”It hasn’t affected me that much this season. I’d be OK with not having any this year, as long as we get to skate in general.“
