Fuller Lake Skating Club members rewarded

Awards presented from a memorable 2017-18 season

Fuller Lake Skating Club members gathered at the St. Mary’s Parish Hall in Ladysmith for their annual general meeting and awards pot luck.

The awards brought to a close a highly-successful 2017-18 season that included the dazzling ice show, A Canadian Road Trip, in March.

Following is a list of the award winners:

CANSKATE AWARDS

Precan of the Year – Oliver Brooks; Most Improved Precan – Harper Ellison; Most Enthusiastic Precan – Brayden Kerr; Canskater of the Year – Mikaila Ellison; Most Improved Canskater (Boy) – Eli Torres Hernandez; Most Improved Canskater (Girl) – Bridgett Watson.

FIGURE SKATING AWARDS

Junior Skater of the Year – Monique Cardin; Most Improved Junior – Skyla Lewis; Sportsmanship – Aolani Jimenez and Evencio Jimenez; Intermediate Skater of the Year – Leah Brown; Most Improved Intermediate – Deliah Modeste and Jasmine Taylor; Sportsmanship – Amanda Nagy; Senior Skater of the Year – Lucy Street; Most Improved Senior – Jazmin Wheeler and Sophie Dawe; Sportsmanship – Olivia Stuart; Dancer of the Year – Aaliyah Ward.

POWER SKATING AWARDS

Pre-Power Skater of the Year – Sheamus Scafe; Most Improved Pre-Power – Austin Christian and Jane Mann; Sportsmanship – Dylan Ashcroft; Junior Power Skater of the Year – Angus Donovan and Rylee Wing; Most Improved Junior Power – Eshaan Sharma; Sportsmanship Darwin Ketch; Senior Power Skater of the Year – Carter Puska; Most Improved Senior Power – Esmé Iverson and Isabella Wiebe; Sportsmanship – Gavin Lewis.

SPECIAL AWARDS

Program Assistant of the Year – Brielle Varasteh; Program Assistants – Caiden Varasteh, Aaliyah Ward, Jazmin Wheeler, Brielle Varasteh, Sophie Dawe, Lucy Street, Brooklyn Puska, Isabel Anderson, Shaylah Ward, Olivia Stuart, Alexandra Fernau; Darcy Dawe; Brendan Porter; Aran Mills; Davin Campbell; Carter Puska and Olivia Wing.

Volunteer of the Year – Luisa Shillingford.

Commitment to Excellence – Julia Hussey and Sophie Dawe in Memory of Barb Knott.

SKATE-A-THON 2018 WINNERS

Most money pledged: 1. Angus Donovan and Ella Donovan - $310 each; 2. Rylan Watson - $181; 3. Daisy Troise and Liam Troise - $169.70 each.

More than $100 raised: Amanda Nagy - $154; Brooklyn Puska - $150; Cooper Smith - $137; Jasmine Taylor - $135; Rydan McIntyre - $120.

Most laps: Pre-can – Harper Ellison 48; Canskate – Eli Torres Hernandez and Bibiana Lee 42; Pre-Power – Austin Christian 34.5; Juniors – Skyla Lewis 50; Junior Power – Jake Grooms 45; Intermediates – Daphne Anderson 74; Seniors – Isabel Anderson 78; Senior Power – Carter Puska 51.
