Vote for the best candidate, not their address

Re: “Vote for Duncan taxpayers”, (Citizen, Oct. 5).

My criteria for mayor and council will be based on who is best suited for the job, not on where in the Cowichan Valley they choose to live. Obviously the candidates don’t have to live within our small city’s limits to have a “committed interest in our city”.

After reading the candidates’ responses to some very important questions sent out to all the candidates for the positions of council and mayor by One Cowichan on Oct. 4, it is clear that Michelle Staples, who has served on council for seven years and has worked in community development in the Valley for the last 20 years has the best qualifications to sit as mayor in our community. I look forward to reading the responses of the other candidates for council to One Cowichan’s questionnaire (Google it) and to the upcoming all candidates meeting on Oct. 10, in Room 140 of VIU, to determine my vote. I encourage all of the voting residents of Duncan to become informed of the candidates’ platforms before voting on Oct. 20.
