Narrow roadway doesn’t meet the standard for width

Henry Road will become dangerous for pedestrians and cyclists with increased traffic

Our municipality plans to develop a Right Of Way on Agricultural Land Reserve land in order to use west Henry Road as the primary access to the 9090 Trans Canada Highway development, even though a traffic assessment found that west Henry Road does not meet the Municipality of North Cowichan Engineering Standard Bylaw for width of a rural local road.

This will create a dangerous roadway for drivers, pedestrians and cyclists as it is a narrow, winding road and residents will not have a sidewalk, shoulder or bike path on which to walk or cycle to town.

Drivers will be forced to navigate around pedestrians and cyclists on a road that is already too narrow in places for an SUV and garbage truck to pass.

Our newly-minted Official Community Plan talks about creating walkable communities, protecting ALR land and restricting development outside our Urban Containment Boundary and this use of west Henry Road breaks every one of those objectives.
