In these trying times we sometimes don’t know who to call when we need help. I’ll tell you my story.
I became aware of a family not adhering to the 14-day quarantine after returning from vacation. They were going out and having company over. I initially contacted the RCMP to no avail then our local Bylaw Officer again without any help.
I then contacted Service BC who referred me to 911 non emergency, who referred me to the RCMP who referred me to the North Cowichan Bylaw Officer.
In my frustration, I sent an e-mail to Premier John Horgan. His office called me and told me it was the Bylaw Officer responsible and it is the law to stay home.
I sent an e-mail to Mayor Siebring and he responded by saying it is their responsibility and will forward my e-mail to Bylaw. I then followed up with Mayor Siebring whether Bylaw acted. His response was and I quote “Trust you understand it’s not the Mayor’s job to direct where or how often Bylaw Enforcement Officers (or Police) attend. We don’t live in Hazzard County, and I’m not Boss Hogg.”
In a crisis some people lead and some follow and then there are people like Mayor Siebring who hide behind the couch and pop up every now and again and say “Is it over yet?”
