Only a brief period of time required to enjoy the festivities

Everyone loves a parade, right?

While that’s generally true, it seems people in and around Chemainus could love their own local parade a little more.

Last year’s turnout for the Summer Fest parade put on by the Chemainus Rotary Club was rather disappointing. It would have been nice to see a larger number of folks lining the parade route.

Now’s your chance to redeem yourself, Chemainus. The event is coming up again this Saturday, June 23 at 11 a.m. and doesn’t require a huge time investment.

We know the parade participants would certainly love to see a lot more onlookers in the crowd. It just makes an event such as this special.

A lot of time and effort goes into putting the parade together by organizers and some entries also require considerable preparations. The least we can do as a community is turn out to show some support.

Parades have long been a tradition with community events everywhere. It just adds that magic touch and brings people together.

We’d be willing to bet there are people in town who don’t even know an annual parade exists. It’s about becoming involved in your town and taking part in activities that are going on.

There’s still a misconception among so many that the bulk of these events only exist for tourists. That couldn’t be further from the truth.

The great thing about a parade is you’re bound to run across people you haven’t seen for ages, even though you still live in the same place. It’s a gathering as much as it is a spectacle for a very brief, but rewarding period through the streets of downtown.

So we expect to see the streets packed Saturday and a boisterous reception for everyone bringing flair to the celebrations with their enthusiasm.
