Shelly Anne Mead of Chemainus BC passed away peacefully with her family at her side at the Cowichan District Hospital.

Shelly was born in Chemainus and grew up in the community, attending both the Chemainus Elementary and Secondary schools. Her love and respect for the teaching profession led her to the University of Victoria where she obtained a Bachelor of Education with honors. Afterward, she returned home where she taught at both the Thetis Island and Chemainus Elementary schools. Teaching became Shelly's passion with nothing giving her more joy than a child's bright smile. When not in her classroom, Shelly loved to spend time in her garden, particularly looking forward to the first blooms of spring.

Shelly will be lovingly remembered and forever cherished by her parents Lawson and Kathryn Mead and her sisters Sherry and Kim. She will be dearly missed by her nieces Gillian and Emily Guest and her brothers-in-law Alvin Nirenberg and Dan Duncan as well as extended family and friends.

The family would like to extend a special thank you Dr. Manhas and the staff of CDH for the care they provided.

Memorial donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Chemainus Health Care Foundation.

A celebration of life will be held at St. Michaels and All Angels Anglican Church, Chemainus BC, March 27 at 2 pm.
