In Loving Memory ~
We would like to announce the recent passing of our beloved brother, uncle and friend, Rodney.
Rod leaves behind a generation of many family and friends in Chemainus, who was adored by all who knew him with his open hearted, friendly, generous and humorous nature.
Rod was born in St. Pauls Hospital, Vancouver in 1951, living in Steveston and moved to Chemainus on his fathers fish boat. They lived on the top end of Henry Road, then moved to town in early 1960"s.
As one of the baby boomer generation, he grew-up, went to school, worked and associated with many in Chemainus, where he lived all his life. A lot of people who grew-up in Chemainus during those years ended up with a nick name. Rod was given the nick name "Obar", short for "over balanced Rodney."
Rod worked in the mill industry in Chemainus and Youbou, as well as an electrical contractor helping others with odd jobs on their houses or business. Rod has always been involved in local activities such as fishing.
He loved cooking and was known to smoke the best fish in town. He and a friend started the first horse and buggy tours in Chemainus. Rod always took life with a grain of salt, and always found time to associate with friends at the local pub, "the Green".
A celebration of life will be held at the Chemainus Legion Saturday January 27th 2024 starting at 1pm.
