CVRD seeks volunteers for recreation advisory committees

The committees will oversee delivery of recreation services in two areas of CVRD

The Cowichan Valley Regional District is inviting applications for volunteer members for two new recreation advisory bodies.

They are the Cowichan South Recreation Commission and the Cowichan Lake Community Hall Advisory Committee.

The purpose of the CSRC is to oversee delivery of recreation services at the Kerry Park Recreation Centre and the Shawnigan Lake Community Centre.

The CVRD is seeking applications for two volunteer community members for the CSRC, one who is a resident of Electoral Area A (Mill Bay/Malahat), and the other a resident of Electoral Area B (Shawnigan Lake).

The volunteer members will serve alongside five elected officials representing Electoral Areas A, B, C, D, and the Municipality of North Cowichan, for a total of seven commission members.

Members will meet about six times a year and will serve a term ending on Dec. 31, 2026.

The purpose of CLCHAC is to make recommendations to the new Cowichan Lake Recreation Commission regarding recreation services in community halls and around the Cowichan Lake area.

The CVRD is seeking applications for a total of six volunteer community members, two for each of Electoral Area F (Cowichan Lake South/Skutz Falls), Electoral Area I (Youbou/Meade Creek), and the Town of Lake Cowichan.

The committee will meet two to three times a year and members will serve a term ending on Dec. 31, 2026.

Applications for all eight volunteer positions are invited until 2 p.m. on Sept. 22.

Volunteer appointments will be made by the CVRD board in early October and applicants can expect to hear back by mid-October.
