Copcan Civil Ltd., the contractor for the first phase of the Chemainus Road Corridor Project, has wrapped up underground improvements and left the site.
The tendering period for the next phase is underway for a new contractor.
“So with the tendering period we expect to have a new contractor awarded and working on site by mid-to-late June to begin surface improvements,” noted John Dehoop, manager of Infrastructure, Engineering Services, for the Municipality of North Cowichan.
The underground utility work done by Copcan included sewer replacement, storm main additions, catch basins, Telus underground conduit and water main replacement with new water and sewer services to every property along Chemainus Road.
The remainder of the project will be finishing work for construction of the sidewalks, curbs, roads, River Road roundabout, rain gardens, shrub gardens, street lights and electrical, landscaping, trees and fencing adjacent to the forestry land. That’s scheduled to take until mid-October.
