A meeting between North Cowichan council and the Cowichan Nation Alliance took place Wednesday as part of a government-to-government consultation on the future of the Municipal Forest Reserve.
The meeting was the first step of the process to listen, learn and begin a dialogue about the Cowichan Nation Alliance’s interests in the MFR.
“Last year, our council made a key commitment to ‘engagement’ as one of the cornerstones in our Strategic Plan,” noted North Cowichan Mayor Al Siebring.
“That specifically includes ‘developing strong relationships with Indigenous peoples.’ The consultations we’re doing with the CNA on our Municipal Forest is closely aligned with that goal and I look forward to continuing the discussions.”
