The Golden Age of the Piano, with May Ling Kwok, opens the Chemainus Classical Concerts season Sunday, Oct. 21 at 2 p.m. at St. Michael’s Church in Chemainus.

Kwok, currently teaching at the Victoria Conservatory of Music and the University of Victoria, is back by popular demand and will perform works by Schumann, Chopin, Beethoven, Mozart, Liadov and Ravel. The music of that romantic era retains its freshness and allure to this day.

Kwok is active as a distinguished teacher, adjudicator, recording artist and concert pianist, noted Ann Mendenall, artistic director of Chemainus Classical Concerts.

“Besides performing frequently in Canada, concert tours have taken her to the United States, Mexico, Western Europe and Russia,” Mendenhall added. “We are thrilled to have her return to the St. Michael’s stage.”

This concert is likely to sell out so Mendenhall advised people to get their tickets ahead of Sunday’s performance to avoid disappointment.

The audience is invited to stay after the concert for a reception to meet the artist.

Tickets are $18 in advance at Owl’s Nest Bakery Bistro in Chemainus, Best Western Plus Chemainus Inn and Salamander Books in Ladysmith. If available at the door, the cost is $25 per person or $10 for under 18.

For more information, visit www.ChemainusClassicalConcerts.ca or call Eleanor Montour at 250-748-8383 to reserve a seat in advance. Season tickets are also still available.
