A musical journey from Paris to Rio, a high-energy 19-piece R & B band, the feel-good sounds of New Orleans and the magic of swing-era and show tunes are all coming to Crofton’s Osborne Bay Pub Sundays in September at 2 p.m., presented by the Chemainus Valley Cultural Arts Society.

Edie Daponte’s globally inspired show From Paris to Rio takes you on a journey from France to Portugal, across to South America, to the Cape Verde Islands and from Brazil to Argentina. Tickets for the Sept. 9 show are $15.

Her latest show show kicks off the sixth fall season of Pat’s House of Jazz.

Daponte’s sultry, emotive and passionate performance lends itself perfectly to a wide range of vocals, seamlessly moving from jazz to Portuguese fado to bossa nova and back again, switching among English, Portuguese, Spanish and French numbers with ease.

She will feature songs from Edith Piaf, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Amalia Rodrigues, Cesaria Evora and others that highlight her wide vocal range.

Celebrated musicians Karel Roessingh on piano, Joey Smith on bass and Damian Graham on drums join Daponte in this fusion of jazz and world music.

Daponte has established a reputation in the music scene of Vancouver Island and Western Canada as a dynamic and engaging performer. She brings passion, playfulness and an evident love of performance to her live shows.

Vancouver Island Music Awards honoured Daponte with Jazz Recording of the Year in 2017 for her original song Island Rain and nominated her as Vocalist of the Year in 2016.

Daponte’s original song Ride the Wind has been nominated in the Traditional category for the 2017 International Portuguese Music Awards (IPMA). Her album Young at Heart was nominated in 2016 for Jazz Album of the Year by the International Music Awards.

On Sept. 16, Soul Source, a 19-piece community band led by Victoria’s red-hot trombonist Nick La Riviere, delivers hard-driving R & B. Tickets are $15.

Expect everything from Stevie Wonder and Taylor Swift to Duffy, Amy Winehouse, Aretha Franklin, the Supremes and more. With four singers, a big horn section and a big rhythm section, this is one big sound.

Connor Stewart & the Bon Temps play Sept. 23. Tickets are $15.

Led by multi-national woodwind sensation Connor Stewart on saxes/clarinet/vocals, this talented quintet showcases a front line of Stewart and fellow ‘Big Easy’ international touring artists, including New Orleans native Doyle Cooper on trumpet/vocals, and a stellar New Orleans-based backline of Aaron Levinson on drums/tambour, Noah Gotfritt on upright bass and Victoria-based John Lee joining them on keys.

Dock Side Drive, one of the West Coast’s hottest swing and show bands, presents ‘A Swinging Sunday Afternoon’ to round out the month Sept. 30. Tickets are $20.

Led by Heather Burns, this dynamic band recreates the magic and the music of the 1940s, ‘50s and ‘60s. Vocalists Christopher Newstead, Angela Ireland and Fran Bitonti join Burns on keys and vocals, Don Leppard on drums, Dave Flello on trumpet and Paul Wainwright on sax.
