The weather couldn’t have been better for the Saltair Centennial Park Easter Egg Hunt hosted by the Saltair Association for Local Teamwork.

Sunday’s sun also brought out the kids in droves, upwards of 80 in total, plus many parents, grandparents and additional family members for the first Easter event since the pandemic began.

”Kids were coming across the fields, out of the trails and up from the parking lots,” observed Lynne Smith, Area G director for the Cowichan Valley Regional District. “Thank you to all those that came and made it a special event.”

A group of amazing volunteers made the event possible.

Janet and Tim Evans manned the coffee, juice and cookie station; Trish Mutcher and Sue Roe helped at the busy prize table; Becky Kay and her daughter Evie made sure the eggs were in great hiding spots and manned the craft table creating flowers and some adorable chicks; director Smith created the craft items; and Danielle Paydli helped with the crafts and cleanup.

“Everyone gave a hand with the decorations and cleanup,” noted Smith.

Local quilter Kate Abraham made all the lovely bunting (flags) that hung around the pavilion while 49th Parallel Grocery’s donation of juice and cookies was a huge hit.

The Ladysmith Thrift Store put aside googly eyes for one of the crafts and had a great selection of Easter decorations.

Strong support from local businesses complemented the work of the many great volunteers.
