It takes a village to raise an ice show from the conceptual stage to maturity for development.
The Fuller Lake Skating Club’s family network required many hands on deck in preparation to make the 2023 production of Reel Ice a reality and it paid off.
The attention to detail for all aspects of the show was phenomenal from the costumes to the theme, the choreography, the music and the performances of the skaters themselves.
It’s not easy to bring all those elements together in such a short time, but the response from the crowds that packed Fuller Lake Arena for two shows Saturday was an indication it was done to perfection.
“It has been five years since we put on our last ice show,” noted Jenn Torres Hernandez, the Fuller Lake Skating Club’s current president and ice show chair. “We almost had one three years ago, but two weeks before curtain call that came to a screeching halt. All of the planning and hard work that had been done was put to the side. This year it was finally time to get the show back rolling, so the exciting, timeless theme of the movies was born.”
Reel Ice came on fast and strong, added Torres Hernandez. “With all the other events of our club also being back in the roster, we had a very busy season. With limited time to make it all happen, we assembled a fantastic group to be our ice show committee and put the call out for volunteers. All of these wonderful people, along with our amazing coaching staff, worked together to create concepts, choreography, costumes, props and more in the true Fuller Lake Skating Club style.
“I am so grateful to them all. The most rewarding part of it all was to see the pride, joy and excitement in the faces of all those kids (and adults) when they put on their costumes and went out for showtime. I couldn’t be more proud of them all and to be a part of something like this.”
The show hit all the right notes with some memorable movies depicted.
The first half of the program featured Disney princesses, Turbo kids, Darth Vader and the Stormtroopers, Princess Leia of Star Wars, an Austin Powers scene, James Bond, Top Gun, Titanic, Queen lead singer Freddie Mercury and Mortal Kombat with the power skaters showcasing their skills.
