Healthcare auxiliary in-person installation and luncheon returns

Members of the Chemainus Healthcare Auxiliary enjoyed having a normal lunch and the annual installation of officers.

The Canteen on the Green at Mount Brenton Golf Course was packed Saturday for the first in-person gathering of the auxiliary since 2019. Everyone had a great time chatting and getting caught up with other members while enjoying a turkey luncheon. Door prizes were handed out, along with the centrepieces.

BC Association of Healthcare Auxiliaries Past President Marge Anderson was on hand to conduct the installation of the 2023 executive.

Donna McCasky returns as president. Others on the new executive include: Laura Burgess (vice president); Jan McIntyre (secretary); Marlene Hayes (treasurer); Betty Guild (assistant treasurer); Dawne Grant and Linda Lendrum (personnel); Nadi Bottomley (publicity); Olga Spensley (membership); and Ian Hardy (assistant membership).

Thelma Simmonds was in the spotlight for her 50 years of doing tea service at the Chemainus Healthcare Centre, receiving special acknowledgement from McCasky, along with flowers.

Many service pins were presented to long-serving members. They include:

50-year pin – Thelma Simmons; 45-year pin – Hazel Maronite; 35-year pin – Sally Urton; 30-year pins – Shirley Patterson, Dianna Bouthillier; 20-year pins – Grace Compton, Marie Hinchsliff, Myrna Roy, Carol Scott, Donna Simmonds, Margaret Wolff.

15-year pins – Alice Bazuin, Susan Hart, Janet Mitchell, Nancy Southern, Alice Thomas, Fern Walker; 10-year pins – Yvette Blanchard, Lucy Fry, Donna Ferguson, Russ McAvella, Mimi Zuyderduyn.

Entertainment was provided by sisters Jess and Jade Blakney. Jade is the assistant manager of the Thrift Shop.
