You can’t plan anything too far ahead given the ongoing COVID restrictions due to the Omicron variant.
The Willie and Jean Fyffe Memorial Christmas dinner at the Chemainus Legion Hall is a case in point. It was all set to go with limited capacity for two sittings, but that’s just been changed again.
The latest Provincial Health Orders Tuesday about COVID regulations has prompted dinner organizer Esther Craig to make another change to the plan.
“Given the latest announcement by Dr. Bonnie (Henry), we have decided that this event will be takeout only,” she noted.
The takeout dinner will start at 1 p.m. on Christmas Day, with takeout soup and leftovers on Boxing Day at 1 p.m.
Monetary donations are gratefully received, Craig added.

The dinners have long been a chance for community members to mingle and enjoy each other’s company, especially for those who may be alone and distant from family members during the holidays.
But it’s quite a different situation with the COVID conditions attached and any mingling in the hall at this point was not going to happen.
“We’d like this Christmas to be an enjoyable time for everyone,” Craig stressed. “Please consider your neighbour. Be Kind, Be Calm, Be Safe.”
