Tree chipping events in Valley this weekend
Dispose of your Christmas tree in an environmentally-friendly manner, and your donation will help support local programs and services, the Cowichan Valley Regional District is urging residents.
Local tree chipping fundraisers are happening throughout the Cowichan region the first weekend of January.
• Shawnigan Lake: “Chip in for the Kids” at Mason’s Store, 1885 Renfrew Rd., on Jan. 5-6 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
• Duncan: “Chip in for the Kids” at the BC Forest Discovery Centre, 2892 Drinkwater Rd., on Jan. 5-6 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
• Duncan: Cowichan Secondary chipping fundraiser at Cowichan Secondary School, 2652 James St. on Jan. 5 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
• Ladysmith: Ladysmith Fire Rescue chipping fundraiser at the Ladysmith Firehall, 330 6 Ave., on Jan. 5-6 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Christmas trees can also be dropped off for free as yard and garden waste at CVRD Recycling Centres and Fisher Road Recycling.
Artificial Christmas trees are not recyclable. Please donate unwanted artificial trees to local re-use and thrift stores.
