There’s still a way to feel the love for Valentine’s Day despite all the pandemic restrictions.

Chemainus is getting an inspirational overhaul for the occasion this year. As many are struggling with how to celebrate the romantic day under COVID-19 challenges, the Chemainus Business Improvement Association has taken the guesswork out of what to do and how to do it.

“We are essentially showcasing four different dates packing it with food and gifts and outdoor exploration,” noted Krystal Adams, executive director of the CBIA. “Just something a bit different.

“So many of us often overlook our community for a source of inspiration because we are in it so frequently. Chemainus is such a beautiful town, we couldn’t help but show residents the potentials for Chemainus at Valentine’s Day.”

The dates vary from romantic outings and family celebrations to hiking and even pure indulgence. A quick review follows and be sure to check out the CBIA ad for all the lovely details.

Date 1: Just the two of you wanting a romantic backdrop. Not to worry, you’re covered with the Most Romantic Spots Date. This sets out along Kin Beach Park’s tidal pools, across the dusky sky, stargazing and even a gentle hike along Chemainus Lake. It’s recommended to get a warm drink from Nic’s Cafe and a scone from Willow Street Cafe for the journey, then topping it off with your favourite cultural cuisine in the restaurant, or at home just the two of you. There are suggested gifts for this type of date and the places you can find them. The date is touted as the one to choose for taking the time to spend together.

Date 2: What about a family date, with many at home and children reducing their peer groups, spending time as a family may just be the perfect creator of memories. Start off by walking along the Trans Canada Trail to take in the sights and sounds of nature. If your family is younger, try some window shopping while stopping at Waterwheel Park to do the Labyrinth or heading into the Wizard’s Arcade for fun in the Chemainus Public Market. Pop out for a late brunch or Archie’s ’50s theme diner for a fun experience. Pick from the ice cream counter there for a tasty treat. Top that off with local sweets, a special outfit, retro games. When you get home, do something as a family like making a craft or playing a board game.

Date 3: Get out, be active and do it all together. Explore Echo Point Park and all of the beautiful natural vistas that this lush 52-acre grounds trail loops through. Bring a warm drink and a delicious on-the-go lunch. It’s suggested to spring for a special surprise like specialized outdoor gear or take your partner into town to let them pick something just for themselves. The result, spending time with nature and your special someone.

Date 4: Last but not least, by any means, a day of indulgence. There are no hikes or trails in this one. Why not rent a room at the Best Western for a true escape? It’s suggested to surprise your loved one with a vintage wine or spirit, some pampering at Urban Legends salon spa, or beautiful jewelry – a gift that will last a lifetime. The best thing about this date, is that you two can just focus on one another and enjoy the finer things in Chemainus.

“In every one of these dates we wanted to create the space to take the time and spend it together, really reconnecting with no interruptions of daily life,” Adams noted. “What more could you ask for as a Valentine’s date than to spend it with the one you love.”

Regardless if you celebrate during the week, on the weekend or on the actual day, all of these dates have some ideas on how to fall in love in Chemainus all over again.
