Long-time Chemainus resident Alice Mills celebrated her 100th birthday Thursday, May 20.

It easn’t quite the massive celebration it could have been due to COVID. But many people still marked the occasion with well wishes by driving past Mills’ residence in Station Ridge Estates.

Mills looks great for her age and people want to know her secret. She was a volunteer at the Chemainus Health Care Centre for many years.

People shared their thoughts about Mills on her big day with comments on the Courier’s Facebook page.

I remember sitting beside you in church Alice when pastor Edgar would give a message and then say it’s your turn to discuss our thoughts and I didn’t know you but asked you a question and you so wisely explained so I understood,” noted Betty Fraser-Howson. “I’m having a senior moment, maybe I cannot remember the question or your answer but you I haven’t ever forgotten you.”

“You are an amazing lady,” praised Debbie Urton. “I always enjoyed talking to you at the Chemainus (Health) Care Centre when you would come and serve tea and coffee for our residents. I hope you had a wonderful day.”
