Chemainus Brewers are into the final four of the South Island Baseball League.

The junior men’s team won its quarterfinal playoff over the Pirates of Victoria and is now into the second game of the semifinals against the Lambrick Giants in a three-game series. The opener was played in Chemainus, but the scene shifts to Victoria for the second game and a third game, if necessary.

There are 11 teams in the SIBL. The Carnarvon Astros are playing the Layritz Reds in the other semifinal.

Saturday’s game in Chemainus that clinched the quarterfinals for the Brewers with a 4-3 squeaker featured outstanding pitching by Adriel Quensada while Jayden Hamm was a defensive standout at third base and Trent Detbrenner made a game-saving play at second.

Zach Komst scored two runs to lead the offense.

Sunday’s first game against the Giants put the Brewers into the driver’s seat with a resounding 10-0 victory. Hamm pitched the shut out.

Adam Fukakusa cleared the bases with a double with two outs for the Brewers and finished with four RBIs. Cam Frame added three RBIs.

Detbrenner made another dandy defensive play. Alejandro Ortega made the final out on a fly ball catch in left field.
