Two of Cowichan’s top adult soccer teams are competing in big games at home this coming Sunday, April 14.

The Cowichan 49ers are playing host to Pegasus FC in the quarterfinals of the Deryl Hughes Men’s Masters ‘A’ Cup provincial tournament at noon while the Cowichan Cougars women’s team will welcome the Langley United Ninjas in the Women’s Masters B Cup quarterfinals at 3 p.m. Both games are set to be contested at the Sherman Road turf.

“We really need the support of our fans,” said 49ers spokesperson Neall Rowlings. “Every year we get knocked out by whoever goes on to win it. This year we don’t want to be the bridesmaid and we have tweaked our team to be more competitive in this tournament.”

Whoever wins between the 49ers and Pegasus will move on to play the top seed West Van of the VMSL for a slot in the provincial final game.

“That’s a long ways away at this point,” Rowlings noted.

Meanwhile, the Cougars are seeking their third-straight B.C. title despite a lackluster record during the regular season.

The winner of the Cougars-Ninjas game moves on to play Gorge FC in the semi-finals the following weekend.
