Thunder roars to another indoor soccer title

Opponents play it tough before P.I.T. Crew cranks up the intensity

The P.I.T. Crew is a formidable one.

The Penelakut Island Thunder did it again, winning the Campbell River Golden Wings Perry Assu indoor soccer tournament for the second year in a row.

The 25th anniversary event featured a tough field, but the Thunder came through again in fine fashion. It certainly wasn’t easy for the Thunder right from the beginning.

“We squeaked through our first game 3-2 over Sechelt Renegades,” noted the Thunder’s Patrick Brown. “We ran into a hot goalie who played very well to keep the score close.”

The second game brought a victory over a young team from Nanaimo, Golden FC, 9-6.

The Thunder got stronger at that point, defeating Longwood Crew 7-2 in the semifinals before facing Golden FC again in the final.

The Thunder surged ahead 6-0 in the first half and cruised to a 7-3 win to take the championship.

The majority of the team had to depart at that point for a Cup game in Div. 1 of the Vancouver Island Soccer League and couldn’t stick around for the awards.

But Brown and a few players were there to bask in the glory on behalf of the team.

Awards included: Cordell Jack as the most valuable goalie; all-stars Brent Brown, Trent Brown, Devin Lepine and Braeden George; and Patrick Brown as the most inspirational player.
