Sunday Jazz opening act lights up the stage

High-energy quartet gets the new season underway in electrifying fashion

The Sunday Jazz season at the Osborne Bay Pub is off to a rousing start.

Andrew Janussen (guitar) and his quartet of Nick Peck (keyboard), Graham Villette (drums) and Lachlan Craven (trumpet) provided the opening afternoon’s entertainment Jan. 14 in front of an appreciate audience.

“What an auspicious start,” enthused Preston Davies, program organizer for the Chemainus Valley Cultural Arts Society. “From the first tune to the last, these guys simply lit up the stage with a selection of blistering up-tempo versions of great standards like Straight No Chaser and Night in Tunisia with a few tender ballads tossed in to let the audience catch its breath.”

Sunday Jazz runs every second week at 2 p.m.

Next up Jan. 28 is KC and the Tomcats that features Phil Newns’ daughter KC on vocals and Davies’ son Trevor on guitar.

Tickets are $20 per person is cash at the door.
