Eight hands tickling the ivories of one piano will surely tickle the fancy of all classic concert enthusiasts.
Chemainus Classical Concerts is bringing four of your friendly neigbourhood pianists to Duncan United Church on April 14 at 2 p.m. with Show of Hands as they bring back a third program of music for four, six, and even eight hands at one piano.
Ann Mendenhall, Catharina de Beer, Emily Armour and Rykie Avenant love the challenges, fulfillment and pure joy that come with this type of collaboration, and have prepared a selection of works for the audience’s enjoyment that include compositions such as bigger works by Schubert and Liszt, accessible duets by Mozart and Bizet, trios by Czerny and Haydn, plus a couple of jazzy pieces, and of course the acrobatics of eight hands sharing 88 keys. Duncan United Church, located at 246 Ingram St., allows for a bigger audience, better visibility, plus overhead screens that offer exceptional views of both the piano and performers so this concert is a switch from the usual venue.
