Re: Area G director Jesse McClinton’s report (Courier, Aug. 17)

McClinton’s statement, “there wasn’t an official APC last term,” is inaccurate and disrespectful to the incredible amount of work performed by the 2018-2022 Area G (Saltair) Area Planning Commission.

These citizens served the Cowichan Valley Regional District board, Area G director and their community diligently and volunteered an astounding amount of their personal time. They attended and participated in all the CVRD meetings held to work on the Harmonized Official Community Plan. There were many such meetings and they required constant and repeated reviews.

In addition to these meetings, three of the members attended meetings to review the Saltair Official Community Plan Bylaw, line by line, to ensure everything in the existing Official Community Plan was included. This also involved many meetings and reviews. These members made sure there would be an opportunity for the community to have a fulsome discussion and input regarding any changes.

Personally, I am extremely grateful these dedicated community members volunteered an unprecedented amount of time and expertise during my four-year term.

Lynne Smith,

Saltair, former CVRD Area G director
