Kyle Young has been appointed the director of development services for the Municipality of North Cowichan, replacing Scott Mack whose sudden departure was announced late last Thursday.

Young has been employed at North Cowichan since 2014, most recently as the assistant manager of planning and subdivision, and previously as a planner.

Prior to joining North Cowichan, Young was a planning and development officer for the City of Salmon Arm for almost three years. He holds a Masters degree in sustainable environmental management from the University of Saskatoon and an undergraduate degree in planning from the University of Northern British Columbia.

Young is a member of the Canadian Institute of Planners and is a Registered Professional Planner.

The director of development services leads and oversees a wide range of portfolios, including current and long-range planning, land-use approvals, building permit and inspection services, and bylaw enforcement.

No reason was given for the end of Mack’s tenure of employment with North Cowichan.

“We thank Mr. Mack for his seven years of service and wish him well in his future endeavours,” noted Ted Swabey, CAO. “Mr. Mack was instrumental in the completion of a number of significant planning projects during his time at the Municipality, including, among other things, the Chemainus, Crofton, and University Village local area plans.”
