It’s the most wonderful time of the year, outside of Christmas Day itself, of course.

The fall can be very pleasant around the area when the monsoon rains are kept to a minimum and it’s certainly hoped the weather conditions will be decent for Saturday’s Fall Fest in Chemainus.

Much planning has gone into another community event and there promises to be one after the other now again until Christmas. It’s almost become a trademark of the town after a summer that featured regular weekend celebrations that began with North Cowichan 150 festivities around mid-June.

The family-friendly atmosphere at each event has been great, generating strong turnouts.

Fall Fest also incorporates Halloween so it’s like a double-bill, in a sense. There will be many activities rolled into one in this case.

The fun runs are always a superb start on a crisp fall day with the leaves crunching under the feet of participants on the Cowichan Valley Trail.

There’s trick-or-treating around town, entertainment, food and beverages and the ever-popular Kidzone to keep everyone entertained and fed for a few hours.

Once the Fall Fest wraps up, it’s straight into Remembrance Day proceedings, beginning with the poppy campaign that’s in need of support more than ever before. The Chemainus Legion and all its volunteers do a terrific job of canvassing. Contributing to the poppy fund is very worthwhile considering how much the organization provides for the community.

Obviously, by the time we hit mid-November it’s full-fledged into Christmas and that time seems to go exceedingly fast.

The Chemainus Business Improvement Association has cooked up a new event for Nov. 18 in conjunction with the Chemainus + District Chamber of Commerce called Sip and Shop. This essentially merges the former Moonlight Madness and Christmas Market. Watch for details on that event in the weeks ahead.

It truly is going to be a wonderful time in Chemainus during the next two months, with so much in store for everyone to enjoy.
