Make an effort to be more positive and caring

Christmas is almost here and comes but once a year, which is too bad because we truly need that feeling to predominate throughout all 365 days.

It’s always been said “for if everyday could be just like Christmas, what a wonderful world this would be.”

You know the song, by Elvis Presley, ‘If Every Day Was Like Christmas.’

‘Why can’t that feeling go on endlessly?’ the lyrics emphasize. It’s a good question.

In this day and age, the negativity seems to far outweigh the positives. We need to get back to the basics of the human spirit: to be kind, to show compassion.

For a small community like ours, random acts of kindness go a long way. Help each other out, open a door for someone less mobile than yourself, just do something pleasant that might unexpectedly improve someone’s day. It’ll also make you feel good.

More on this subject is provided in the current issue of the Courier by columnist Brittany Leonard. Take what she has written into account and think about it.

Frequent letter-writer Roy Summerhayes is another person who’s been a proponent of a positive attitude. Let’s look on the bright side of life would certainly be his motto, rather than dwelling on ill feelings.

We all need to take more time to comprehend what our actions can mean in the big picture. It’s not going to solve the conflicts around the globe, but everyone sharing pleasantries is a lot better than the alternative.

It’s important to appreciate the people who help you live a more fulfilling life, like doctors and nurses, for example. Where would you be without them in certain cases?

It’s too easy to complain and not realize the pain you’re inflicting on someone just because you’re in a bad mood or things aren’t going well.

Merry Christmas and think back to this special day during the year to brighten your mood when local or international events get you down.
