The inexperience showed in the end, but the Chemainus Cubs Under 18 baseball team enjoyed a productive season.

The Cubs prevailed in a tight battle over Duncan Blue 15-13 in the first round of the playoffs and then won their quarterfinal game by forfeit against Salt Spring Island.

That led to the semifinals and a 12-5 loss to Oceanside June 21.

“Just too much firepower for our young team to handle in the end,” noted Cubs head coach Jon Aaron HopWo.

Ladysmith then beat Oceanside in the final 4-3 in a nailbiting pitching duel June 23.

HopWo noted Cubs team member Jasper Edward-Kleinke will be continuing to play baseball for UBC Okanagan next year, taking post secondary studies for a degree in kinesiology.
