The Ladysmith and Chemainus Rotary Clubs’ charity golf tournament is a winner for the players because of the experience and to the organizations the event supports.

“After expenses, we usually bring in about $15,000,” said Tom Andrews of the Chemainus Rotary Club, who co-chaired the event with Ladysmith’s Joan Phillips.

This year’s 12th annual event, held on Saturday at the Mount Brenton Golf Course, was no exception. More than $15,000 was indeed raised again for local youth and charitable organizations.

That means the tournament has brought in more than $180,000 since its inception for worthwhile causes in each community, with the proceeds split between the two clubs.

“We had a great day Saturday,” said Andrews.

The weather was obviously ideal for the golfers, with 108 players comprising 27 teams doing their part.

“They pay a substantial amount to play in the tournament to help raise money for Rotary clubs,” Andrews indicated.

It’s also the contributions of the business community and other individuals not playing in the tournament that makes it such a huge success.

“We want to thank all the sponsors for their generous donations,” said Andrews. “The sponsor holes, the sponsor meals and people sponsor carts that helps cover big expenses.”

The tournament returned to a shotgun start after previously utilizing a running start in the last two years since the pandemic.

“We didn’t miss, even during COVID,” enthused Andrews. “We just altered the format.”

The first-place team with a remarkable score of 54 – that’s 17 under par – included: Everett Belesky, Cody Dupont, Mike Needham and Dallas Jones.

Second-place honours with a 56 went to the team of Jamie Hayton, Ed Mulrooney, Earl Blom and Derek Wilkinson.

Harmon Rathor, Kevin Miller, Ian Blom and Brendon Porter teamed up for third place with a 57.
