It was an uplifting experience.
The originally-scheduled Vancouver Island Interclub competition planned for Fuller Lake Arena Saturday got postponed due to road conditions and flooding around the region.
In its place, the host Fuller Lake Skating Club came together with members of the Duncan and Kerry Park Skating Club for a fun showcase event, the Vancouver Island Interclub solo performance.
“Regions canceled the competition this weekend, due to the state of emergency of only essential driving,” noted Fuller Lake Skating Club president Luisa Shillingford.
Skaters were very sad about the cancellation so the showcase was at least a chance for them to perform the routines they’ve been working on so hard for the first event with an in-person audience since COVID.
A large group photo was taken at the beginning with the 36 participants – 16 from Fuller Lake, 13 from Duncan and seven from Kerry Park.
Fuller Lake’s Sophie Dawe skated in three events: the Star 8 freeskate, Star 7 short program and Gold Artistic. Clubmate Lucy Street also did the Star 8 freeskate and Star 7 short program.
Friends and family of the skaters came together to show their support and how proud they all are of their efforts leading up to the weekend.
