Time will fly in a fast-paced Vancouver Island Pickleball Association 90-Minute Tournament Sunday, Aug. 14 at the Fuller Lake pickleball courts.

The tournament is going ahead, weather permitting. An event last month, the Skinny Singles Shootout, was surprisingly cancelled due to a lack of entries.

Any apprehension about playing singles is certainly not seen with doubles.

The 90-Minute Tournament’s mixed doubles event filled to overflowing within three minutes of the registration opening, noted VIPA president Ken Holman of Chemainus.

“So many entries we have scheduled a second mixed doubles event,” he indicated. “The first will start at 2 p.m., the second at 4 p.m.”

The women’s doubles event was also quick to fill up within four minutes of the registration opening.

There is now a waiting list for all events. The women’s doubles starts at 10 a.m., men’s doubles at noon and then the two mixed doubles events at 2 and 4 p.m.
