The Fuller Lake Skating Club accounted for a large majority of the 39 skaters entered in the annual Cowichan Valley Showcase skating event at Fuller Lake Arena.
A few members of the Duncan and Kerry Park clubs also participated.
As the name implies, the idea was for the skaters to showcase their talents in a slightly different format than the usual competitions. Members of the community did the judging rather than conventional judges.
“It wasn’t judged on technique,” said Fuller Lake head coach Shannon McKinlay. “It was judged on musicality and showmanship.”
It gave those skaters who put a little extra flair into their routines a chance to be rewarded.
The skaters were divided into three teams of 13. Points were tallied from all the skaters at different levels of competition to determine the championship team.
