Coach Kelsey Bell was obviously disappointed the Ballenas volleyball tournament in Parksville didn’t turn out better for the Chemainus Cougars senior girls.

There were 16 teams in the event and the Cougars had their hands full with the competition.

“Unfortunately, we came in last place in the tournament,” noted Bell. “Our communication was lacking which resulted in a lot of dropped balls and misplays. On a more positive note, the girls did achieve some great rallies and their serving was much better from our last tournament.

“A lot of great teams were in this tournament which was challenging but also a great mental game for our girls. They pushed through and didn’t give up.”

Mark Isfeld of Courtenay came first followed by runner-up Vic High. Nanaimo Christian School slipped into third, with Highland of Comox fourth and Brooks of Powell River fifth.

The remainder of the teams representing all parts of the region and final placements were: Gulf Islands (sixth), Port Alberni (seventh), Ballenas (eighth), Edward Milne (ninth), Cowichan Secondary (10th), Wellington (11th), Kwalikum (12th), Parkland (13th), Duncan Christian School (14th) and Campbell River Christian (15th).

The Cougars will now be practicing diligently to prepare for the Island A girls championships at Nanaimo Christian School November 16-17.
