The Chemainus Cougars keep coming close, but can’t quite get over the top to win their first senior girls volleyball game of the season.

Chemainus played Brentwood College teams last Tuesday.

The Cougars were narrowly defeated in the first meeting against Brentwood C, losing 26-24, and then also dropped the second game.

Two games that followed against Brentwood B both ended in losses as well.

“The girls are continuing to improve as a whole group and working hard to be ready for the North Islands,” noted coach Jill Astren.

The tournament takes place Friday, Nov. 4 and Saturday, Nov. 5 at Duncan Christian School. The Cougars go up against Campbell River Christian at 10:45 a.m. Friday and also face Cedar at 2:30 p.m. and Ucluelet at 6:15 p.m. in the preliminary round.

“We had a team building evening taking in the Vancouver Island University women’s Mariners volleyball game at the VIU campus,” Astren indicated. “The girls were wowed by some excellent volleyball and the game provided some context to some of the court transitions and positioning they’ve been learning.”
