Chemainus senior boys are taking some giant strides forward in volleyball.

The Cougars were involved in a four-team round robin playday at Duncan Christian School last Tuesday, joining the host Chargers as well as Gagliardi and Nanaimo Christian School.

“This was our best volleyball as a team by a long shot,” noted Cougars’ coach Sean Lefebure.

“Everyone contributed and minimized the unforced errors. It was a lot of fun to be a coach during these matches.”

All the hard work Lefebure and the players have been putting in to bring up the competitive level is paying off.

“Every game was competitive, with most games going 20-25, 21-25,” Lefebure pointed out. “We didn’t come out on top against any teams, but some very close matches with NCS and DCS were very encouraging for our squad.

“We know what it’s like to compete and be within reach of winning. Now we just need to work on closing it out.”

No more matches are on the schedule for the Cougars until the Island tournament next week at Nanaimo Christian School when they’ll put everything they’ve learned and the progress they’ve made on the line.
