The Mount Brenton Golf Course club championships featured great golf over two days, with 87 participants comprising four divisions and the awarding of eight main trophies and more than 40 participation trophies.
Barry Casparie had rounds of 70 Saturday and 75 Sunday for a two-day total of 145 to claim the men’s club championship. Berry Reumkens was a close second with a 147 total from rounds of 73 and 74.
Brayden Haine was men’s low net at 141 followed by Todd Sumislawski at 143.
Dar Michell won the ladies club championship, shooting 90 and 92 for a 182 low gross. Kathy Matilpi earned runner-up status with a 192 following rounds of 94 and 98.
Tops in low net for the ladies was Barb Pauze at 148, with Babs Guest in the runner-up spot at 154.
Ted Valleau captured the senior men’s 55+ low gross title, with a 161 total from a 79 Saturday combined with an 82 Sunday. Richard McLeod (80-88) claimed second over two others at 168, James Cricket (79-89) and Randy Pauls (85-83).
Low net went to Dale Neubauer with a 149 and Pauls was the runner-up on a countback at 150.
In super senior men’s 70+, Brian Aaberg (79-83) claimed the low gross with a 162. Richard Redfern (78-86) was at 164 for second.
The low net title for super seniors went to Alf Thomas with a 140. Jim Carlson placed second with a 142.
“It goes without saying it takes a lot of effort to put on a championship,” noted club captain Kevin Mills.
He cited the efforts of men’s league club captain Jody Griffiths, Julie Stevens of Canteen on the Green and Kath Burnell, in particular.
“If it wasn’t for Jody, Ken and Kath it would be just another day on the golf course. Julie and her crew did a fabulous lunch with great service. I hope we continue to take advantage of the gastronomic delight Julie produces every day.”
Mills also acknowledged club pro Jan Best and his crew for providing professional golf tournament services.
