Too many regulations with cannabis legalization

While I applaud the legalization of marijuana as a giant step forward from the clutches of intrusive government I must ask just how legal it can be if the only licenced outlet to open as yet is in Kamloops.

The so-called end of prohibition has been wrapped in so many contradictory regulations that I am reminded of “The Walrus and The Carpenter.”

“If seven committees with seven mandates met for twenty years,

Do you suppose,” the Walrus said, “That they could make it clear?”

“I doubt it,” said the Carpenter, “so I shall stick to beer.”

The sad truth is that marijuana has not been legalized but controlled and commodified, just like alcohol. If that is the case sales should be allowed in the private sector or alcohol should be restricted only to government outlets. With a clean slate before us, why are we building a flawed system? Better still, just make it legal and leave us to find our own. Nobody will make millions but nobody will have to spend huge amounts on a product that has been found growing in the cracks on the Legislature sidewalks.
