We pet owners have all received notification from our veterinary clinics stating that after the clinics are closed for the day, we have to take our pets to Victoria or Nanaimo to be cared for medical issues.
We have three veterinary clinics in Duncan, one in Chemainus and one in Mill Bay.
Why can’t each of these five clinics take turns of being available for after-hour medical emergencies? For example, each clinic be available after regular hours for two weeks at a time.
An example is the Prevost clinic could be available for after hours from May 1-4. That would be for two weeks. The next time to be its turn again would be July 10-23.
We pet owners are in a serious situation when it comes to pet medical emergencies. What about pet owners who do not have a vehicle to drive their pets to Victoria or Nanaimo?
A pet needs urgent medical attention, the same time a pet owner who does not have a vehicle must push the panic button to find someone to drive them and their pet to Nanaimo or Victoria.
In summary, the five clinics taking turns is not asking too much, because at the end of it, we pet owners are the ones who are paying the bills for medical attention.
