Letter: Mayor, councillor unduly negative about OCP review

I would expect greater professionalism from the position of mayor

Mayor and council,

I’m writing as a follow up to the video responses of particular council members in the special workshop on Tuesday, Feb. 15.

In my opinion, it seems obvious from watching this review that Mayor Siebring and Councillor Manhas are very negative regarding the Official Community Plan review process on the whole.

There isn’t any question this OCP review is a costly, time consuming undertaking but in my opinion the obvious dramatic influences on council by Mayor Siebring are counter productive to the process at hand. I would expect greater professionalism from the position of mayor.

Also in my opinion, Councillor Manhas’ introduction of ethnicism is uncalled for. Councillors are supposed to be representing the interests of all taxpayers in the municipality. Comments of this nature suggest otherwise.

Everyone in our community has been negatively impacted in the past two years but every interested party who wanted to participate with input has had the opportunity and the time to do so.

In my opinion, should these obvious undue influences by two members of council stall or derail this process, this council would not like to be associated with such a legacy.

I encourage each member of council to accept the results of the valuable input in order to fulfil your responsibility of completing and adopting our new OCP in a timely manner.

Bryan Senft,

Duncan
