Good Samaritans a rarity these days

Helpful hand by Curtis at the Co-op much appreciated

I would like to share a nice thing that Curtis did for me at the Co-op gas station.

It was about the coldest day yet and I had to fill my jerry can twice because I had to put the gas in my generator in anticipation of a power outage. It’s a 10-litre can and my generator tank is 20 litres. I filled the first one up myself, went home, went back for the next one.

I went into the Co-op and saw Curtis. I said to him, “Are you a nice guy?” He replied with a big smile, “I can be.” I asked him if he’d please fill my jerry can. He said that it would be his absolute pleasure.

I always have $5 Tim Horton’s or McDonald’s gift cards (and I had a Big Mac coupon) in my purse to give for occasions such as this. He absolutely refused. I insisted, he refused more. He told me he wants to be of service any way that he can.

Then he said that I could give it to the lady at the till. I did. Everybody was happy, especially me.

Here is someone who is happy in his job, loves his job, it shows in his face, wants to help people. Imagine that. Big shout out to Curtis.

Lorraine Howatt,
