The Fuller Lake Skating Club deserves top marks for its attention to detail and the opportunities it provides.

The club experience is all-encompassing for figure skaters of all ages, including adults, and powerskating.

The pandemic has obviously curtailed some of those experiences, but the chance to finally cut loose with a spring concert was welcomed by volunteers and the skaters.

This wasn’t even considered a regular show by the club’s standards, but you wouldn’t know it. The costumes were still extremely well done and coordinated that you know must have taken considerable time and planning to accomplish, not to mention the work required of the skaters on the actual routines.

It came together in a neat package of solo and group performances plus a powerskating demonstration. A large crowd of family members and friends appreciated the effort.

When the club can host a full-fledged skating show again it will come with all the glitz and glamour of extensive decorations, spotlights and more. But this concert can hardly be considered a notch down from that.

Full credit goes to all the parents, who not only volunteer for the little extras such as preparing the decadent desserts that have become a Fuller Lake tradition at the event, but also serving in the much-needed executive positions.

The skaters must also be acknowledged for the time and effort they put into practice. It’s a sport that often doesn’t get a lot of attention, although the Courier makes it a priority to publicize anything the club is doing.

The group of predominantly girls is also bucking a trend of others in their age group, putting their phones down and concentrating on perfecting a craft they love. That takes a special commitment.

As senior skater Sophie Dawe pointed out, there is a big difference skating for a show audience and being under the microscope for judging. Concerts are a chance to have fun, enjoying each other’s company and the passion they share.

To those in the greater community who pay little attention or don’t have family members in the club, it’s definitely worthwhile to venture to Fuller Lake Arena during these shows and support the skaters. The entertainment value, alone, is worth it.
