The Lady in the window (The corner of Lang and Pine St.)
It is with the deepest sorrow the family of Velva (Val) Ruth Walters (nee Stebbins) announces the passing of Val, on May 18th, 2021. Val, predeceased by her loving husband Ted (Teddy), will be missed by the family of her oldest son Melvin Pratt (Dora), her other sons Paul (Jan) and Ernest, her Grandchildren Sherri-Lee, John Jeffery, David, Ryan, Joshua and Kaleena, and her 10 Great-GrandChildren, and 3 Great-Great-GrandChildren.
A special thought should be given to Mom and Dad's best friends, Aunt Bernice, and Uncle Bruno, both who were the one constant friendship throughout their lives, until their passing's, and their children Diane (Barry) and Ted (Donna), their families, and Dad's brother Maurice Cogswell (Crystal).
Val spent her life looking after others, and in her spare time, was a busy woman making flower arrangements, and little teddy bears, along with her other crafts. Val could be seen at the local Christmas fair selling those wares every Christmas.
Another joy, that Mom spent countless hours on was waving at the school kids, as they passed the house to go to school.
She was proud to say, that all waved back at her, and that there were some students that had had children and she was now waving at them.
Val had a great many friends throughout her life, who she talked to on a regular basis, right up until the end. A special mention to Mom's friends Pat Herman, Jean Davidson, Elsie Fletcher, Helen Torpy, and Hazel Maron, who the family would like to thank in particular, for her endless friendship and continuous effort to make Mom's years, easier, in her later years.
A special thanks to the BCAS, VIHA Home Support, Dr. Manhas, The Canadian Red Cross, the 49th Grocery delivery people, Veterans Affairs, the Canadian Legion, and the other countless people that helped Mom in her last years.
Mom had a child like innocence, and trusted and believed in all that came her way. So, if you pass the house, and look in the window, you will still see her there waving at you. Know you have made her smile today.
