August 27, 1928 - October 21, 2021
It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Richard 'Dick' Stanton left us at Cowichan District Hospital on October 21, 2021 at the age of 93.
He is survived by his wife Irean; daughter Jacqueline (Russell), Kenneth (Denise), Phillip (Shelley); sister May Lambert; and brother Edward (Sandy) Stanton.
Dad was a proud grandfather of seven: Soleena, Carmen, Kyle, Shannon, Darcy, Jessica and Rebecca; great grandfather to nine: Rylan, Owen, Chole, Sophie, Torin, Peyton, Ryder, Emery, and Cambria.
Dick was born in Birtle MB on August 27, 1928. He left the farming community of Birtle and came to Chemainus in 1950 where he met his wife of 68 years, Irean. He was employed at MacMillan Blodel for 32 years working as crane and carrier operator then fire and security. His real calling was being a volunteer ambulance driver and fireman for 32 years, 13 years as fire chief. Dick helped bring much innovation to the department including computer, training tower, and the famous "Jaws of Life" rescue tool.
His volunteerism never stopped at emergency services moving on to Rotarian, Chemainus Hospital Foundation, Legion 191 and 14 years for Chemainus Valley Museum. Dick's dedication to his community will fondly be remembered. Dick was a great husband, dad and friend. He loved his family so much.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, November 27, 2021 at the Chemainus Legion, 9775 Chemainus Road, Chemainus, BC. In lieu of flowers, please consider volunteering in your community.
