In loving memory ~
Karl Schutz passed away peacefully in Duncan with his wife Betty and friends at his side on Thursday, August 25, 2022 at the age of 92.
From his humble beginnings as an immigrant to Canada in 1951, he opened and ran his own cabinet-making business and then after he "retired", he created a vibrant economic development company that used his passion for the arts and tourism.
The Chemainus Mural Project was his first venture into that field, fostered by the love he had for his adopted hometown. He shared his vision and expertise with communities in 61 countries. He had a significant impact in promoting artists through tourism and helping communities revitalize across the globe.
At his request, there will be no service, but donations can be made on his behalf to The Chemainus Festival of Murals Society or The Chemainus Valley Museum.
